Having your cake and eating it too ....

So there we were waiting to place our orders at the coupon counter of our office cafeteria when we noticed that a bunch of people were crowding around with absolutely no intention of trying to stand in the queue patiently behind us. My friend very politely tells a lady from the above mentioned group that we have been waiting  in the queue and that she needs to get in line when she rudely replies "There always is a separate line everywhere for women. Why isn't there one here and why should I stand in this line?"

Sometimes I think that for every guy out there who quietly keeps chipping away in his own way to break our Indian society's deeply ingrained perception of women in the workplace and help them scale new heights, we have an equivalent hypocritical lady who shouts from the roof tops and clamours for women's equality but wants all the perks associated with being a woman.

True... we don't know what we want... to be treated equal ... which means no special buses or seats or queues or... to be treated differently from men... which means no more working and staying in a purdah.

Pardon me...but all ladies aren't like that...I for one hv stood in queues to c men not following it...and wen i do interrupt and tell them tht cn u kindly follow the queue thn they ended up arguing! What I feel is it's about people...if they do something wrong like this and u ques them they tend to defend themselves instead of accepting their mistake more too often...Don't make it a gender biased post..Else I have tons to ramble in the regard how women are "equally" treated..Equality is just a myth for them...I have been born and brought up in Delhi and having traveled here and lived here I can go on blabbering about the harassment, eve teasing and how backward actually is the capital of the developing country of ours...

Wer else do u see female foeticide? Or have u ever seen a family who despite the economic condt keep on giving birth to girls in hope for a boy...I have seen all of tht...

P.S.: Don't you feel like coming home...

Buls - I agree. Imagine our plight when we need to figure out the women we know, who in turn my not have fully figured out what they want!

Anony - It wasnt a gender bashing / biased post really. I just wanted to highlight how some of educated middle class India's women (in this case) think. And yes, I agree, we are a long way away from true equality. And yes, our capital is definitely nowhere close to treating women with the dignity they deserve. But, there is a small pocket of guys who are trying to improve things. May their tribe increase!

@Neil: I would also like to highlight how most of the educated middle class Indian men think. You just touched a raw nerve there.

On second thoughts, let's leave it at this... :D No gender wars...But I still do feel d post is gender biased :|

P.S.: It was love...

Anony - Well if I had posted what some guys had said & done would it would have still been a gender biased post, just in the reverse direction, so I end up losing either way! You bring up a good point - what do educated middle class Indian men think?

umm... amid all the socially relevant discussions, my stupid two cents if I may

I really don't get this equality arguments. And that holds for not just men/women, but also for caste/class/religion related differences. Rather than fighting for equality, I would rather fight for respect/tolerance/celebrating the differences...

@Neil: Yup you are right...I feel the same as Nefertiti...As I said earlier too "What I feel is it's about people...if they do something wrong like this and u ques them they tend to defend themselves instead of accepting their mistake more too often." Not men or women to distinguish...

@Nef: Agree with your thoughts dear!If only everyone becomes that understanding! The world would be a much better place to live!

P.S.: Say it right...

Yours,
Anony

Females are a pain when they can't follow simple things like a queue.

I for one have influenced my boss and my lead singer to pick up fights with people who do not wait in line.
You won't believe how many people stop cutting the line when You modulate your voice and bellow out something in a deep bass tone.
